Leaf Man

One of my very favorite books to read to kids in the fall is Leaf Man  by Lois Ehlert. I know once I get stuck on a theme I have trouble getting away. I blame it on my profession. Creating themes in teaching transfers over into my real life in a major way. But back to Leaf Man. This is a great book that uses real leaves to illustrate the Leaf Man on his journeys through the marsh, over the fields and the prairie meadows, on the lakes and rivers and over the mountains to find a home. Lois Ehlert is an award winning author and illustrator with a love of beautiful, autumn leaves. This book is great for children ages 4-8 and could be used for inspiring a fall walk, discussing places leaves might go or perhaps making a leaf man of your own. My son especially liked looking at all the different types of leaves on the end papers (the insides of the cover of the book) and learning what trees they were from. I especially liked the Author's Note on the inside back cover explaining the background of the book. Where do you think the Leaf Man will go?
