Click, Clack, Boo!
If you've read any of Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin's farm stories, and even if you haven't, you'll love this Halloween tale, Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat. Farmer Brown does not like Halloween, so he puts out the candy, posts a do not disturb sign and hides in his bed. Little does he know that his animals are hosting a Halloween party in his very own barn. Farmer Brown is scared of the crunches and creaks and taps that he hears until he hears a familiar sound. He bolts out of his bed and down to barn to investigate and finds himself in the middle of the party. Cronin sticks with her familiar wit as Farmer Brown has to keep his animals in check and Lewin's watercolor illustrations keep you guessing until the end. This is a cute story with just the right amount of suspense for young children (ages 3-7). My son and students looked a little nervous when Farmer Brown hid under the covers, but all declared that it was, "not scary at all" at the end. So put on your best spooky whisper and enjoy a seasonal treat.
